The notch Windows
never had.
Venu turns the top of your screen into a living sheet of glass — music, notifications, AI usage and system stats — in a native Rust app smaller than most wallpapers.

Features
Everything you glance at,
one flick of the cursor away.
Venu is a set of slides living in one tiny surface. Each one is useful on its own; together they replace a handful of windows you keep alt-tabbing to.
Media, without the window
Track, artist, artwork, play / pause and skip — straight from Windows System Media Transport Controls, so it works with Spotify, browsers and any player that reports to Windows.

AI coding usage, always in view
Claude Code context window, session cost and rate limits, plus OpenAI Codex and Google Antigravity usage — without opening a dashboard. Hook up your agents
Release build
venu.exe compiled in 38.2s
Notifications with presence
A notification centre in the notch: unread dots, per-app colours, individual dismiss, clear all — and four animated glow styles so the important ones actually get noticed.

Whole-PC stats
CPU, physical RAM, the busiest GPU engine and battery or AC power. Sampled only while the slide is on screen.
Edge Marquee
Scroll reminders, quotes or status along any screen edge — top, bottom, left, right. Speed, direction, thickness, colour and opacity are yours. Click-through, always-on-top, full Unicode.
Wallpaper-aware colour
Samples your wallpaper and pulls dominant colours into accents and themes.
Precision colour editor
SV canvas, hue and alpha sliders, HEX / RGB / HSV input and curated swatches.
Your screen, your rules
Top or bottom, any monitor, custom width, height and offset. Auto mode surfaces what matters.
Pin & click-through
Keep it open while you work, or let clicks fall straight through to the app below.
Wheel to switch
Scroll over the notch to move between Status, Clock, Media, Alerts, Usage and Stats.
Quiet in the tray
Single instance, launch on sign-in, Settings one click away from the tray or the notch.
For developers
Your agents finish. Your notch knows.
Venu listens on a local webhook at 127.0.0.1:18923. Anything that can send JSON — AI agents, builds, tests, deploys — can light up your desktop. Ready-made hooks for Claude Code, Codex and Antigravity ship in the repo.

Lightweight by design
Native. Not a browser in a trench coat.
A notch is something you look at all day, so it has to cost nothing. Venu is built like a system component, not like an app.
Rust, end to end
No embedded browser, no JavaScript runtime. A single native executable built with Rust 2021, egui and the windows crate.
Drawn by Direct2D
The notch is painted with Direct2D and DirectWrite into a layered window — GPU-accelerated shapes, text and live backdrop blur.
Repaints only on change
Frames are gated by what's actually visible. Hidden slides don't animate, text layouts are cached, and Stats sample only while shown.

Build from source
stable Rust toolchain
$ git clone https://github.com/imnakul/venu---Dynamic-Notch-for-Windows.git$ cd venu---Dynamic-Notch-for-Windows$ cargo build --releaseOutput lands in target/release/venu.exe. Inno Setup 6 builds the installer from packaging/venu.iss.
Open source
Built in the open. Free for everyone.
Venu is MIT licensed and made by one developer who wanted a better desktop. A star is the easiest way to say thanks — and it helps other Windows users find it.
FAQ
Questions, answered.
Does it work on Windows 10, or only Windows 11?
Both. Venu targets Windows 10 and Windows 11. Fluent acrylic and the glass finishes adapt to what your Windows version supports.
Do I need administrator rights?
No. The installer puts Venu in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Venu for your user only, and the portable build doesn't install anything at all.
Will it slow my PC down?
Venu is a native Rust app drawing with Direct2D. It repaints only when something visible changes, keeps hidden slides idle and samples system stats only while that slide is on screen.
Can it sit on another monitor, or at the bottom?
Yes. Choose the monitor, top or bottom placement, alignment, width, height and offset in Settings > Notch.
Which media apps does it support?
Anything that reports to Windows System Media Transport Controls — the same source as the Windows volume flyout — including Spotify and most browsers.
Does Venu collect any data?
No. There is no account, no telemetry and no cloud service. Your configuration is a JSON file under %APPDATA%\venu.
How do I uninstall it?
Use Windows' Apps settings or the bundled uninstaller. For the portable build, quit from the tray menu and delete the .exe.
